My family didn’t take vacations when I was young. As the child of a Navy veteran who did most of his globe trotting before I was born, my summers consisted of trips to the lake with Grandma and Grandpa (do not underestimate the awesomeness!) and making forts in the woods with my neighborhood friends. And it was fine.
I did, however, become acutely aware of a bigger world out there my senior year of high school when a Polish foreign exchange student transferred into our school and I was tasked with escorting her around school. Her name was Amelia, and her exotic stories of her home country enchanted me. At graduation, she gifted me a book about Poland, should I ever plan to visit, its glossy pages full of pictures of a vibrant land so far away it didn’t feel real.
Now, married and with a family of my own, and after many years planning and traveling the world, I’m sharing my travel planning tools, frugal family hacks, and must-do family adventures to help likeminded families make the memories that will live forever in experiencing the once-in-a-lifetime together. Whether that’s enjoying a bonfire at a mountainside retreat in the Smoky Mountains, riding camels in the Sahara, hiking through a steaming lava field on The Big Island in Hawai’i, or visiting ancient castles in Europe, you’ll find plans, tips, and experiences here on Adventur to make it the best experience for your family.
